Role Synopsis To support the offshore and onshore health Teams in delivering an effective emergency medical and occupational health (OH) service to the business. Meet compliance with BP requirements and business needs and further develop and implement strategies to manage emergency, occupational health & hygiene risks across the operation. The Offshore medic reports to the Health
Manager and the role includes close liaison with the offshore, health and HSSE teams.
Key accountabilities 
• Apply BP internal operating standards, processes and procedures to ensure smooth delivery and compliance of the emergency and offshore Health service.
• Manage Medical emergencies and primary care cases working within the boundaries of medical professional procedures and policies.
• Provide initial emergency response, resuscitation and stabilisation of critically ill or injured patients by employing ACLS emergency and Topside medical protocols.
• Carry out clinical occupational health procedures including health surveillance and other periodic health assessments at offshore sites as per BP policy and procedures.
• Provide advice on the health risk management of hazardous processes to assist the prevention of occupational ill health.
• Act as a coordinator for Industrial and Occupational Hygiene Risks including Food Hygiene, Ergonomics, Noise, Chemicals and Hand Arm Vibration.
• Maintain accurate and legible records and be aware of the legal implications of these documents
• Provide advice on the health aspects of policy relating to protective clothing and equipment
• Monitor the provision of first aid resources at sites and provide coaching and training on first aid
• Ensure the maintenance of professional standards.
• Develop and apply health promotion activities and initiatives.
• Liaise closely with the rest of the operations and health teams to support them in the delivery of their role.
• External and internal liaison to foster good relationships and representation of BP.

Essential Education • Registered General Nurse or medical physician (Doctor)
• Current ACLS & ATLS Qualification or UK HSE Approved Offshore Medic Certificate
• Offshore medical certificate
• Offshore Helicopter emergency (HUET) training

Essential experience and job requirements • 1-5 years experience of working offshore and a medic/or Occupational Health advisor
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Desire to work within Occupational Health specialist field
• Ability to communicate well on all levels including fluency in both spoken and written English and Portuguese

Desirable criteria & qualifications • Accreditation with a relevant professional institution
• Auditing experience
• Experience of training and have good presentation skills
• Flexible and proactive
• Understanding of health risks (malaria, HIV, medical infrastructure, etc) of operating in an emerging culture and tropical area.
• Sound knowledge of the business and the legislative framework
