Role Overview
International SOS is currently recruiting for an Offshore Occupational Health Medic, based in Denmark, to act as the primary source of medical advice on the installation for any personal suffering from illness or injury. Other responsibilities include:
  • Provide on-site medical care to all installation personnel within boundaries of professional competence.
  • Ensure compliance with the Client’s current Health, Safety and Environmental practices and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records, and ill health/incident reporting using International SOS' recording system, MedicsOnline, in accordance with International SOS’ Protocol Manual, in the absence of a client recording system.
  • Provide initial emergency response, resuscitation and stabilisation of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients, employing ALS/ ATLS emergency medical protocols.
  • Communicate and provide details to the Topside Doctor for the management and treatment of medevac cases provide appropriate referral documentation for injured or ill personnel and liaise with logistics personnel to arrange safe transfer onshore to receive further medical treatment.
  • Order, maintain and control adequate stocks of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals in the sickbay, as per International SOS' Protocol Manual, the Company’s drug formulary and as directed by the Company Medical Adviser.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of the installation’s manual handling assessments, DSE, noise, face fit testing, Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) and hydrocarbon assessment activities and maintain records in the Integrated Safe Systems of Work (ISSOW) register.
Required Qualifications
Nursing or Military Qualifications required to undertake an HSE Approved Offshore Medics Course
HSE Approved Offshore Medics Certificate.
A current and valid Offshore Survival Certificate.
A current and valid Offshore Medical Certificate
Required Work Experience
Registered Nurses and have a suitable portfolio of post registration experience or:
Naval Medical Assistants, who have attained the rate of Leading Medical Assistant and have a suitable portfolio of service or:
Army Medical Assistants (Combat Medical Technician 1), who have attained the rank of Corporal and have a suitable portfolio of service or:
RAF Medical Assistants, who have attained the rank of Corporal and have a suitable portfolio of service.
Appropriate training and experience in Occupational Health as determined by the requirement of the post.
Skills
Medical:
  • Competent in resuscitation procedures to include thrombolysis and the use of an ECG monitor.
  • Competence in the communications protocol with the topside emergency doctor service.
  • Competence in local emergency response (multi-casualty/major injury or illness/death), including applying triage, arranging emergency treatment areas and medevac procedures.                       
  • Competence in applying company procedures for the management of disease outbreaks, e.g., food poisoning.
  • Understanding of the Company wide organisational arrangements for delivering the Company’s Occupational health Policy
  • Supervision of first aiders and regular first-aider training
  • Awareness of Oil and Gas UK guidance on medical fitness for offshore work.
  • Ability to actively participate and learn from all training to ensure personal responsibilities are completed competently and professionally
  • Ability to make informed decisions within the bounds of accountability, taking into account external factors, such as weather conditions and accessibility to onshore emergency medical services
