Medic/Safety Officer , Offshore

Location:  Ponce, Puerto Rico   (Offshore)


Responsibilities:
Oversees the entire operation of the medical and safety department
Accountable for for safety routine, health and safety notices
Training development in areas such as safety, firefighting and search and rescue among others
Assist Chief Engineer in the evaluation of risk assessment
Knowledge of risk identification and responsibility to respond and react accordingly

Availability of attendance for the drills and exercises
Oversees medical budget and inventory of medical supplies

Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years as first medical provider and offshore security experience
Seafarers Medical/ ENG1
STCW95
Understanding the usage of two way communication systems (VHF/UHF)
Ability to initiate emergency medical procedures
TWIC card*
Not prone to motion sickness (seasickness)

The Transportation Worker Identification Credential, also known as TWIC®, is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for workers who access secure areas of the nation’s maritime facilities and vessels. TWIC card as a mandatory requirement to work in our facilities. To receive a TWIC card, TSA conducts a security threat assessment (background check) to determine a person’s eligibility and issues the credential. Work Environment:

Work is performed in a vessel; surfaces may be uneven, slippery or confined. Must adjust and cope with exposure to weather elements, noisy environment, rough seas and unpredictable circumstances.

Work Hours

In accordance with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Maritime Labor Convention, while the ship is out of port, the incumbent will be tasked with his/her responsibilities between 10-14 hours a day, with a minimum rest of ten hours in any 24 hour period and/or a minimum of 77 hours in any seven day period. The hours of rest may be divided into no more than two periods, one of which shall be at least 6 hours in length, and the intervals between consecutive periods of rest shall not exceed 14 hours. A log recording number of hours of work and rest must be maintained by the incumbent.
