Saturation Medic , Middle East
Location: Offshore - Dubai, UAE
DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION
The Saturation Medic is primarily responsible for medical care to the project team members inside the saturation facility, and has an overall obligation to diagnose health situations and provide medical care for all people on site.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform pre and post saturation medical dive checks;
Maintain recording of pre and post saturation diving medical checks of divers;
Provide first aid and medical assistance in case of emergency situations whenever required;
Management of ailments and injuries and the administration of medicines;
Maintain contact with the offshore medical advisor where required;
Provide confidential counselling as Occupational Health Representative;
Medical inventory, administration, ordering and advising;
Reporting and logging the activities of the medical service on-board the vessel;
Prescription of medicine in accordance with the vessel Medic’s Standing Order or the advice of the Duty Doctor (onshore);
Monitors hygienic conditions, good housekeeping and occupational shipboard environmental considerations such as noise evaluation.
The Vessel Medic could also have administrative duties to perform such as vessel inductions, cabin allocations, etc. These administrative duties will differ from vessel to vessel. Carrying out these administrative duties shall not result in reduced quality of their primary duties. If the Standing Orders cover the illness/injury and the appropriate medication for that illness/injury then the Vessel Medic can, if confident to do so, prescribe the medication without recourse to the Duty Doctor. If there is any doubt the Duty Doctor should be contacted. The duty Doctor (onshore) shall be contacted in all cases where prescription only medicines are to be used.
In addition to all above, the Offshore Medic will undertake other duties within his /her sphere of influence as designated by the Offshore Construction Manager.
Medic will not have conflicting duties in emergency situations. The provision of medical treatment will always have first priority.
CAPABILITY PROFILE; KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
Conversant with MS Office;
Good verbal and written knowledge of the English language;
Offshore medical suitable for geographical area of work;
Offshore survival course suitable for geographical area of work;
A minimum of 2-3 years relevant work experience in medical offshore related to Saturation diving;
Registered nurse;
Documented training in emergency and hyperbaric medicine, including diagnosis and treatment of injuries and illness related to diving;
Be medically fit to work under increased ambient pressure;
Have competence in occupational hygiene related to diving;
They should also have specific training in relevant professional fields such as Trauma Medicine, Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health, Diving Medicine, Food Hygiene, Counselling, and an appreciation of Travel Medicine;
Preference will be given to those with International NEBOSH Certificate OR other internationally recognised Occupational Safety and Health Certificate of equivalent standard OR Internationally recognised vocational qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
