Background: A Medic must carry out O&M Contractor medical policies and ensure that the pharmacy and sickbay are stocked as per O&M Contractor standards, and ready for medical requirements. He must also ensure medical administration is current accurate and confidential as appropriate.
Authority: The Medic is authorised to manage the Sickbay, Pharmacy, relevant Stock Control, Alcohol and Drug tests, and appropriate record keeping.
Immediate Subordinates: Assistant Medics / Nurses as appropriate.
Accountable For: Typical Responsibilities & Standards
1) Maintain Health and Safety Systems and the Working Environment Statutory and Organisational Requirements.
1 Make up-to-date medical information easily available to relevant personnel.
2 Implement Safety Management Systems within your personal responsibility and in accordance with Management System and Operational requirements.
3 Identify deviations from statutory and organisational requirements and take action.
4 Implement Alcohol and Drugs policy by applying appropriate tests
5 Provide accurate reports to relevant personnel on request.
2) Contribute to the Development and Maintenance of Health and Safety Culture at the Workplace including implementation of Preventative and Protective measures.
1 Provide presentations to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for offshore personnel
2 Implement Alcohol and Drugs policy by applying appropriate tests
3 Advise Operations Office and OIM of updates to current medical legislation
4 Liaise with onshore support to ensure optimum current practices are adopted
5 Ensure that health, hygiene and safety requirements are maintained to appropriate legislative standards
6 Prepare for and perform weekly inspections where necessary
3) Provide Medical Treatment On Board And Provide Support During Emergency Response Situations And Drills.
1 Maintain relevant, certified, medical training / refresher training as required for offshore position.
2 Provide medical diagnoses and treatment and First Aid on board as required
3 Provide support during emergency response situations and drills.
4 Treat patients with due confidentiality and respect.
4) Contribute to the reporting, investigation and follow up of Incidents.
1 Appropriate medical details of incidents are accurately and fully reported within the required timescale in accordance with organisational and statutory requirements
2 Accurate details of incidents are obtained from witnesses where these pertain to medical issues.
3 Information collected is interpreted and appropriate recommendations are made, based on an accurate analysis of valid and reliable information
4 Reports and support material are obtained in accordance with organisational requirements
5 Relevant recommendations are made to achieve improvements in, and compliance with, health and safety standards and are based on an accurate analysis of valid and reliable information
5) Perform General Administration Duties, Including Presentation Of Information And Demonstrations.
1 Provide appropriate presentations to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for offshore personnel
2 Provide appropriate presentations for the arrival briefing and for the safety meeting
3 Provide in-house training on new equipment, first aid practice etc. where required
4 Maintain records of all medical training on board and provide medical statistics for OIM and Operations Office analysis
5 Maintain stocks of medical supplies and maintain accurate records of drugs and consumables
6) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures
1 Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure and regulation.
2 Medical, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure.
3 Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures
4 Environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors.
7) Emergency Response
1 Carry out Emergency Response role
2 During Emergency Response Drills and training exercises, demonstrate competence.

2. Contribute to the Development and Maintenance of Health and Safety Culture at the Workplace including implementation of Preventative and Protective measures.

8. Provide any additional duties as required by the OIM/Unit Spt and /or HOD to maintain safe and efficient running of the Unit.
Qualifications and Experience:
Medical certification by nationally recognised organization to Nurse standard (higher qualification desirable).
3 years experience in Incident and Emergency Nursing with offshore experience preferred.
ATS/ALS certified is an advantage.
Practical computer skills, in particular Management System-Excel, Management System-Word.

Medically fit to offshore International standards such as ENG1 or equivalent.
