Summary:

The safety medic is a combined position of medic and field QHSE advisor. In addition to the general medic duties and responsibilities, the safety medic performs the following duties: advises and assists the client in planning and managing the QHSE aspects of the project, supports and assists the crew in the sustained implementation and verification of QHSE standards and procedures and adherence to these through training, provides technical assistance and monitoring, promotes a consistent HSE awareness throughout the crew and assures robust reporting on HSE activities and events to the client.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:Medical Responsibilities
· Provides advice and medical treatment for primary health care, general practice, and emergency situations as dictated by prevailing protocols and scope of practice.
· Completes RMI and client reporting requirements as dictated by project.
· Undertakes medical escort duties as required.
· Follows RMI and client protocols, procedures and practices.
· Maintains clinic in accordance with RMI and prevailing standards.
· Represents Remote Medical International in a professional manner at all times.
· Maintains current professional certifications, as designated for assigned projects.
· Researches and reports monthly on industry (medical and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)) updates for distribution to the RMI medical team, as assigned by field operations project manager.
· Develops medical and HSE training presentations to be used by the RMI medical team, as assigned by field operations project manager.
· Researches and suggests resources and Continuing Medical Education (CME) options for the RMI medical team’s professional development.
· Maintains site/crew records as client requires.

QHSE Responsibilities
· Commits to a suitable level of knowledge on the client’s Safety Management System (SMS) and RMI’s QHSE standards and procedures.
· Encourages line management QHSE awareness to ensure QHSE is an integral part of the client’s project.
· Organizes and records QHSE training for project personnel, including subcontractors, and organizes refresher or update courses.
· Ensures that QHSE information issued by the client QHSE Management Team is distributed.
· Ensures that personnel are made aware of changes to key client QHSE documentation as it occurs.
· Actively participates in briefings and de-briefings of client QHSE stand-downs, drills, operational activities etc.
· Acts as a focal point for all project QHSE matters.
· Advises Client on compliance issues within client SMS as well as industry guidelines.
· Supports the crew in managing risk with Task Risk Assessments (TRAs), Method Of Change (MOC), Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Toolbox Topics (TBTs).
· Coaches crew/contractors on client TRAs/TBTs and assist in the review of work instructions and Toolbox Topics.
· Keeps abreast of any new client development or policy related to HSE and disseminates to crew and management accordingly.
· Monitors progress with client QHSE action points and tracks to closure.
· Participates in event investigations (Dependent on skill set—may co-lead the investigation process).
· Encourages and actively supports client Behavioral Safety program.
· Maintains and completes various inspections as required by client.
· Reviews client project HSE key performance indicators and monitors performance against objectives.
· Additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
· Previous experience in seismic operations, maritime operations, industrial operations and/or oil & gas operations is highly desired.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and general computer & technology literacy.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
· NEBOSH certificate; University Degree (HSE); OSHA 132 hour, NIOSH, or NASP training; or industry experience.
· Nationally recognized paramedic license/certification, examples include: NREMT (US), HCPC (UK), HPCSA (SA), ANZCP (NZ, AU) ACP (CAN) or AREMT (AU). Higher level of Advance Life Support certifications accepted.
· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider (current) or equivalent.
· Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
· Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) provider (current) or equivalent, instructor preferred.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The position includes extended periods of time sitting and standing. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 175 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Wile performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Outdoor work will be conducted in any weather conditions, year-round, in a variety of environments throughout the United States and internationally. It may include travel over uneven terrain. This position will work with a variety of equipment, which may contain bags and pieces of equipment up to 55 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Exposure to excessive noise will be reduced through the use of engineering controls.
